Professor Bilal Hamad: A Legacy of Engineering Excellence
For over 45 years, Professor Bilal Hamad has forged a distinguished career in the design, supervision, and construction of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures. His expansive portfolio features landmark projects such as the Conference Center at the Lebanese University in Hadath, the Municipal Stadium in Sidon, the Baalbek Stadium, the Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque, as well as dozens of bridges, buildings, and residential, commercial, and touristic complexes across Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and several African nations.
Renowned as a leading consultant in structural rehabilitation, Dr. Hamad specializes in the repair and strengthening of structures compromised by blast damage, material deterioration, or environmental degradation. He has spearheaded major assessment and restoration initiatives for critical infrastructure, including the Chekka Tunnel and numerous buildings across Beirut and other regions affected by conflict, bombings, fire, and corrosion of reinforcement steel.
In addition to his design work, Dr. Hamad has conducted high-level technical design reviews and value engineering studies for complex projects in Lebanon, the Gulf region, including the RUA Al Madina development for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and various parts of Africa. Among his most notable contributions are structural upgrade studies to enhance the seismic resilience of Lebanon’s Palace of Justice and Ministry of Justice buildings.
Professor Hamad is the Founder and General Manager of CODE Consultants & Designers sarl and its sister company, CODE International Ltd, both multidisciplinary engineering firms staffed with experts in architecture, structural, and electro-mechanical systems.
His contributions to research and academia have garnered international recognition. In December 2024, he was named among the world’s top scientists by Stanford University’s globally respected Science-wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators. This prestigious ranking reflects the global reach and lasting impact of his scholarly work in the field of Civil Engineering a crowning achievement in his academic journey.
In 2013, Dr. Hamad received the Distinguished Graduate Award from the Worldwide Alumni Association of AUB (WAAAUB), in recognition of his outstanding service to the American University of Beirut and its alumni, as well as his significant professional accomplishments.
Earlier, in 2011, he was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni of the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin—an honor bestowed in recognition of his exceptional professional achievements and lifelong commitment to advancing engineering education.
